For breakfast we bought fresh bananas and a huge papaya for 100 Meticash (about 1,3€) from 2 young ladies. The fresh fruit was delicious and as always no comparison to what we know so from the supermarket.

Since Jochen had to take his daughter and a few other children to school that morning anyway, he took a little extra way to drive us to the ferry to Inhambane. On the way we stopped at a few ATMs, unfortunately without success. With only a few Meticash left in our pockets, we were just able to pay for the ferry crossing – also thanks to Jochen, who made sure with his Portuguese that we were not ripped off.

The “ferry” seemed to have seen better times and we crossed all fingers that we would make it safely the 30min to the other side. Together with locals, we were crammed onto this soul seller that stank of old diesel. However, the trip went without incident.

As soon as we arrived on the other side, we started looking for a ride to Vilanculos. This we found, thanks to a local, also quite quickly. Once again we found ourselves squeezed in – on a 4.5h ride – in a minibus. This time we also had a passenger who was transporting 2 live chickens in a blue plastic bag. Also interesting was the technique of how the driver attached the heavy trailer to the minibus with a simple string.

Arrived in Vilanculos we found our accommodation quite quickly – after a short walk in scorching heat we reached the Baobab Beach Resort. Here we received our third free room upgrade of the trip through Rabeca – the good soul of the house. Rabeca was always a great help during the next days and was always available for a chat and a few jokes. We let the evening end with beer, grilled fish and grilled calamari. We enjoyed a few more beers on the veranda of our hut – Andreas had immediately fallen in love with the hammock.
